The bros over at VG247 got to sit down and have a chat with some of the people behind the oddworld series over at Just Add Water LTD. They got to hear from CEO and creative director, Stewart Gilray on how Oddworld came to be the cult classic that it has become today. During the interview news on HD revivals for the Oddworld Quintology were announced. The HD versions of Munch’s Odyssee and Strangers Wrath for the PS3 and Vita. The Oddworld Quintology (5 game series) has been planned since 1994 with Abe’s Oddysee, Munch’s Oddyssee and Strangers Wrath being the first 3 games!!!! And!!!! the 4th game being Squeek’s Oddysee which is currently in development! So with all that being said Strangers Wrath releases on PSN in a couple of months with the the Vita versions of Strangers Wrath and Munch’s Oddyssee coming right after it near the end of this year or early 2012. The HD version of Abe’s Odyssee does not have a set date, but keep a close eye for it around the end of 2012.

All of the Oddworld games have maintained an endearing uniqueness and oddity about them that has won over many fans and stuck in gamers’ consciousness since Abe’s first foray out of Rupture Farms in 1997. Back then, the mischievous, downtrodden Mudokon with an adorable line in giggling, fart jokes and mighty effective pick-up lines – “Hello.” “Hello.” “Follow me.” “Okay.” – was a reminder that 2D could still hold its own when all around it were adorning themselves in fancy new 3D trappings.

Just a quick correction, the Oddworld Quintology has been planned since 1994, and the first two installments of it are Abe’s Oddysee and Munch’s Oddysee.
